Pregnancy Week 21 Recap

Alright, so I took the picture a day early and am posting a day late… which pretty accurately describes how this week went! For work I had to travel the first part of this week to New Orleans for a convention.  And let me tell you… NOLA the week after Mardi Gras is not the most ideal place for a pregnant woman.  Let’s just say I’m ready for my sense of smell to return to normal.  Plus this convention requires a lot of walking! My coworker who was wearing a pedometer (and who I spent most of the days with ) got 15,000+ steps every day.  So I am a bit exhausted and ready to put my feet up and do NOTHING for a few days.  But enough excuses for why I am late with the post… Here you go!

week21

Baby’s Size: a Spaghetti Squash- and she weighs approximately 1lb.  But apparently from here on out she ramps up the growth, so she should be gaining a 6 ounces in the next week!

Baby’s Progress: Baby girl is still kicking and moving around quite a bit, but of course stops any time I try to get Reese to feel her move, so he is definitely wishing he could feel her move more! Her lips, eyelids and eyebrows are growing more distinct and she is starting to grow tooth buds!

Weight Gain: About 1/2 a lb, which puts me up about 3 lbs from where I started.

Sleep: Not sure if it was the guy playing saxophone loudly outside my hotel (I was on floor 25 and could still hear him) or the pregnancy… but I’ve had better nights of sleep.  Although last night in my own bed I slept like a rockstar.  So I’m grateful for a few good nights of sleep!

Milestones: I can’t really think of any milestones for this week… except for maybe that baby girl got a taste of Creole food?

Favorite clothing item of the week: Pregnancy tank tops! I bought a couple of them at Target and they definitely saved me this week when I had to wear my work polo and it was just a bit shorter in front that in should have been… tank tops to the rescue!

Symptoms: OOOOOH after walking so much my feet and my back were aching for certain! I could definitely feel the exhaustion faster! But I successfully finished the convention and other than taking it easy for the next few days, I’m no worse for the wear!

Workout: Walking, Walking, More Walking.

Bonus Story: On my flight to New Orleans I was on Southwest Airlines, so of course it is open seating.  Well I hadn’t remembered to check in early enough so was pretty far down in the C-lineup to get to pick a seat.  So as I’m getting on the plane I see an open window seat and bonus a spot above it for a roller bag.  So I ask the woman and her 10 year old son if someone was sitting there, and they assured me that no, no one was.  So I put my bag up above and the woman gets up from her seat.  The 10 year old doesn’t move.  I sit and look at him for another second, but the line behind me is growing and it is clear that he wasn’t going to move.  So me, my big ol’ belly and my computer bag have to climb over the 10 year old to get into my seat. Let me tell you, I was the definition of graceful. (That was sarcasm for those of you who struggle to identify it) And I was definitely sweating as I fell into my seat. Maybe one day that kid will learn that it is less unpleasant to get up out of your seat than to have a pregnant woman crawl over you complete with heavy computer bag.

Pinterest Made Me Do It

One of my family’s traditions for Valentine’s Day growing up was to make home-made Valentine‘s for every member of the family.  For weeks before Valentine’s Day there would be a spot set up in the house with stickers, construction paper, lace doilies, etc. for us to create our little poems and crafty notes for our family.  Then on V-Day morning we would have a sit down breakfast with coffee cake, eggs and bacon, and we would share our Valentine’s with everyone.  And while my brothers and I have been sporadic in keeping up with the tradition, I wanted my niece to have her own home-made valentine from me!

And so a free weekend, my new embroidery machine and pinterest’s never-ending taunt of projects made me decide to try my hand at a home-made bag valentine that I had seen.

I don’t have a true tutorial for you because this project is so similar to one of my favorite’s that I did for my wedding and I did an in depth tutorial here: DIY Makeup Bag. And if you follow the pinterest link above for my inspiration she has a great tutorial as well!

I didn’t line this bag since I used some already stiff canvas material, and I didn’t do the box corners to make it stand up because I wanted my niece to be able to put cards into it.  But I started out with my four pieces and a zipper.  I had already appliqued a heart onto the front of my bag using my new embroidery machine.  I’m still learning to navigate how to use it, but I’m pretty pleased with the results so far!! (once I get a little better I’ll post about how to use it)

And when it was done, it looked like this:

I love the way it turned out! And I love having actually done something with my Pinterest board besides just browsing! Has Pinterest inspired any of you to get crafty lately?

Week 20 Bump Update

week20

Baby’s Size: According to Pregnant Chicken she is the size of the world’s largest gummy bear and weighs about 3/4 of a lb.

Baby’s Progress: Baby girl is kicking and moving around quite a bit, and I can tell they are getting stronger, and in development news… she now has eyebrows (which if my life is any indication she will spend most of her adult years trying to tame.

Weight Gain: I’m still about the same… maybe gained a half pound, depending on what time of day you weigh. I keep thinking that here in a few weeks I’ll read this and laugh at how little I’ve gained so far, but… not yet.

Sleep: I can definitely tell it is getting harder to change positions in the middle of the night, so I can’t imagine in a month or two when I am so much bigger being able to adjust very easily!

Milestones: Honestly it was a quiet week, so no major milestones for Baby Girl or us, we are just starting to decide on a name and making actual concrete plans… so every day this whole thing gets a lot more real!

Favorite clothing item of the week: definitely a non-pregnancy sweatshirt thing I bought at Gap over Christmas.  It has plenty of room in it, is warm and cozy and I’ve been living in it after work!

Symptoms: I’ve had a few bouts of returning nausea, but other than that I feel great. And I am taking full advantage! We had beautiful weather so the husband and I went for a long walk at the nature preserve on Valentine’s day, and I can tell how much more winded I get faster, but other than that I feel pretty much like normal old me. I mean… that is until I look down and see a bump.

Workout: I did a morning at Camp Gladiator, but wussed out the next workout when it was 36 degrees outside.  I woke up at 5 am, brushed my teeth, put on workout clothes, and started to go when Reese said: do you know it is 36 degrees outside? I said Nope… and turned around and went back to bed.  Best. Decision. Ever.

I know a lot of women that don’t feel great for most of their pregnancy, but I feel amazingly fortunate to feel as good as I do right now. I am going to try to enjoy it as long as I can!! I have two weeks of travel coming up and so I am grateful that this is a time where I feel pretty good!!
